Many girls in northern Kenya miss out on education. In towns they work as house helps; in rural areas they herd livestock and carry household chores; some are married while still in their teens.
Our approach
- Community conversations with parents, elders and religious leaders on the value of educating girls
- Working with schools to identify girls at risk of dropping out
- Advocacy for enforcement of existing laws that protect the right of every girl to education
- Celebrating role models — women from the community who completed school
Community members tell us that VOPA's advocacy has helped many girls enrol in school and pursue their dreams. We are working to scale this to more villages across the county.
